Baker Virtual Academy is a K-6 online option for families living within the Baker School District. Baker Virtual Academy teachers work in partnership with Baker Web Academy teachers to provide an asynchronous learning option for families. Students enrolled in this program follow the Baker School District calendar, including start dates, end dates, and non-school days. Students receive instruction in English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Physical Education. Students receive pass or fail grades quarterly. Daily attendance is required and is monitored through a daily discussion question. Advisory teachers meet with families once or twice a week to review progress, solidify key concepts, and monitor student growth.
Students are provided a district device to access online coursework and hotspots are available to families without a home internet connection.
Student supports are provided through content area teachers, advisory meetings once or twice a week, and access to online tutoring classrooms. Curriculum levels can be tailored to the needs of the child and adjusted up or down depending on student performance. Students complete benchmark assessments three times a year to track growth.
This program works well for self-motivated students and families that are able to work alongside the youngest learners as they navigate online platforms.
